Dr Sarah Yardley holds fellowships with the Health Improvement Studies (THIS) Institute and the Churchill Fellowship, focusing on improving relationship-centred practices in healthcare, particularly for individuals with severe mental illness (SMI) needing palliative care. Sarah researches relationship-centred practices in healthcare systems to reduce rhetoric vs. reality, policy vs. practice, expectations vs. experiences gaps. Her research uses internationally recognized innovative transdisciplinary qualitative methods to understand how people (patients, their care partners, professionals, system decision-makers) do the work of healthcare, particularly in complex, human-dependent interventions. Her Churchill Fellowship seeks to improve care for people living with Serious Mental Illness (SMI) who need Palliative Care for advanced incurable physical illness.
