Ivor Williams
Ivor Williams is a design leader specialising in healthcare innovation, with deep expertise in mental health and wellbeing for people with advanced illness. As Honorary Practice Fellow at Imperial College London's Institute of Global Health Innovation, he advances innovative palliative care products and services including Palliate, which supports community-based end-of-life symptom management, reducing response times from 100+ to 20 minutes.
Previously Senior Design Associate and then Lead for End-of-Life Care at the Helix Centre (2015-2023), Ivor helped design ReSPECT, now used by 55% of UK health services, fundamentally improving emergency care conversations for people with life-limiting conditions. As co-founder of Humane Engineering, he created Cove, one of the first NHS-approved mental health apps, supporting over 270,000 people self-managing their anxiety and depression.
Named a 'New Radical' by Nesta and the Observer newspaper for pioneering human-centric approaches to dying, bereavement and grief, Ivor uniquely bridges design, technology and psychological support. He founded Mortals, a cohort-programme that supports mental wellbeing through mortality awareness and consults with organisations from NHS trusts to startups on sensitive healthcare challenges.
His approach combines evidence-based design with deep understanding of the psychological and spiritual needs of people facing advanced illness, their families, caregivers and the communities around them.
