In this MAIN event webinar we will explore experiences of supporting families when a member of the family is facing advanced illness or end of life.
Speakers:
- Dr Lissette Aviles is a registered nurse, lecturer and ethics lead in Nursing Studies at the University of Edinburgh. She has been leading teaching, research and practice on serious illness, organ donation and end of life drawing on person-centred and family-centred approaches in the UK and abroad. Lissette introduces the webinar.
- Professor Liz Forbat is a research psychologist at the University of Stirling and family systemic psychotherapist in independent practice. She has been leading research and clinical practice on serious illness, caregiving, cancer and palliative care for over 20 years. She has published three books and over 80 journal articles, drawing on a mix of methods and approaches within and beyond the UK. She will talk about research and her clinical work as a family psychotherapist, focused on the concerns of families and how best to support them.
- Louise Allan is a Marie Curie Community Clinical Nurse Specialist. She has been working in this role for 6 months since moving back home to Edinburgh and did the same role in Manchester for 2 years prior. Louise’s career history is based mostly in oncology, having worked in chemotherapy units, the Scottish Cancer Research Network, and wards around Edinburgh, Glasgow and Greater Manchester. Louise will talk about her experiences as a Clinical Nurse Specialist of supporting families and carers in advanced illness and end of life.
